TV tonight: the Game of Thrones prequel that is actually heaps of fun

1 day ago 2

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

9pm, Sky Atlantic
If you loved the unlikely pairing of the Hound and Arya in Game of Thrones, this lighter, funnier new prequel is way more enjoyable than the dismal drama of House of the Dragon. Set 100 years before the events of GoT, the story is based on a George RR Martin novella, following the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a sweet, courageous hedge knight (“like a knight … but sadder”) and his inquisitive young squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). But it’s not all fun and games – after all, what is Westeros without the cunning characters and grisly bits? As Duncan’s journey begins, expect puppet dragons, projectile poo and a promise to win a jousting tourney. Hollie Richardson

The death of a ladies’ man is the focus of the latest investigation in this undemanding detective drama. He has apparently died in a kayaking accident, but Lycra-clad Lynley (he found the body during his morning run) suspects foul play. Soon, there are almost too many suspects – and possible motives – for the police to handle. Phil Harrison

Lucy Worsley’s Victorian Murder Club

9pm, BBC Two
Seweryn Kłosowski, AKA “the Borough poisoner”, was executed in Wandsworth prison in 1903 for murdering three women – but was he also “the Thames torso murderer” Lucy Worsley has been hunting? In the final part of her thrilling investigation, the historian studies the fifth dismembered victim and provides a convincing prime suspect. HR

TV doesn’t get much more “January” than this: an elite team of military veterans open up about men’s mental health taboos, while competing in an ultramarathon across a frozen wilderness landscape. They have 10 days to complete the Arctic Challenge, in an environment where asking for help isn’t a weakness – it’s essential to survive. Ellen E Jones

Industry

10.40pm, BBC One
A night at the manor with the Mucks, where Yasmin (Marisa Abela) is throwing Henry (Kit Harington) a Marie Antoinette-themed 40th birthday party that promises all the debauched chaos of Versailles. Business is mixed in with pleasure, as Labour MP Jenni Bevan – who beat Henry in the election – is in attendance. But just how badly will self-destructive Henry sabotage the evening? HR
